Stargirl/Outsider Feedback

We're finished reading The Outsiders and Stargirl, our first novels of the year.  While each book is different, there were many similarities.  Each book deals with teenagers who learn who they can count on in life.  Their answers to the question, "Whom can you count on?" were different though.  There were also literary similarities also.  Both books were written from first person point-of-view.  Both books also were written without chapter titles.  Important?  I'm not sure, but something that I noticed.  I want to know what you thought about the book that you read and the activities that we did in class with the books.  What was your opinion about the book?  Based on what you know of the other book, would you have rather read the other book?  What was your favorite part in the book that you did read?  Were your classroom discussions about the book helpful to your understanding of the book?  Let me know your answers to some of these questions.  Add anything else that you'd like to share.  If possible, comment about a classmate's thoughts.  Remember to add your name at the end of the post, so that you receive credit for the post.  Thanks for your input!

I absolutely LOVED reading The Outsiders, I'm really happy I was able to read it with my friends. I don't know what to think about Stargirl and if I should read it or not. My favorite part in The Outsiders was when Ponyboy ran up to Darrel and Soda, and then when Darrel started crying after he say that Pony was alright because he didn't want to lose another loved on. That part almost made me cry because it made me think of my brothers and how they look like lost puppies without each other. The reviewing of the chapters really let me see my group members point of view in the chapters.
Thank you for making us read this AMAZING book!

I loved reading The Outsiders, just as Madie said. It was a warm story with brotherly love, but had a cold side to it that made it more appealing. I really liked reading Outsiders, and probably more than I would have Stargirl. I am glad I read The Outsiders because I feel that the movie wouldn`t have made sense to those who read Stargirl. My favorite part in the book was when the boys won the rumble, because it proved they were somewhat "better" than the greasers. The part I didn`t like was when Johnny died after this success. Again like Madie said I liked when we could hear a different point of veiw and other ideas about the book when discussing homework. I also loved reading this book because my dad read it in high school so I could talk to him about it and he would know what I was talking about. I loved reading this book!!!! -Paige Metz

I thought that Stargirl was a good book but i would have loved to read The outsiders. My favorite part in stargirl was when she first came to school and was not like the rest of them. When reviewing with my group i thought i was a good idea to see what other people thought of the book. But over all i thought Strgirl was a good book.

i thought Stargirl was a good book just as grace said. my opinion about the book was that it was just to be yourself and don't be like the rest of the world. unlike stargirl when she changed to be a normal girl. when she liked being herself. but as grace said stargirl is a good book and should read it

Just like Grace said i thought it was a good book. In some parts of the book you didn't know it was going to happen. My favorite part was when Leo and Stargirl strarted to date. I also thought the cheerleaders were mean when they left her a the game.

I thought The Outsiders was an amazing book! When we did all the worksheets and class talk I understood the book more and more every day. Based on what iv'e heard about Stargirl, i'm glad I read The Outsiders. My favorite part of The Outsiders is when Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally save the kids from the burning church. I absolutely loved this book!

I read The Outsiders and, just like everyone else who read it, I loved it! I am happy that I read it based on other people's opinion on Stargirl. My favorite part in the book was when Johnny protects Ponyboy from the Socs by killing Bob, which shows he and Ponyboy have a strong friendship. I think that the class discussions were helpful because it reminded me of the smaller details in the story to understand it better. Overall, I loved The Outsiders and I am really glad I read it this year.

I loved the book the outsiders! I'm some what glad that I didn't read Stargirl from the other students opinion. My favorite part in the book was when johnny told Ponyboy to stay gold. And i felt like I understood the character well and how they felt etc.

I LOVED the Outsiders. it was fantastic. Knowing how good outsiders was, I would probably read stargirl because it sounds like a good book. My favorite part of the outsiders was when Pony, Johnny, and Dally were saving the kids at the church. I think that part touched my heart because they were heroic and very kind. When you would review with us i could understand more and more of it. I want to say that was a wise choice making us read it.

Stargirl is a good book most of the time that I was reading it I was thinking how kind and thoughtful Stargirl is and the other half of me was thinking why didnt Stargirl have any freinds? But Stargirl is uniqe and i think she is awsome the book was fun to read, but do still wonder what it would be like to have read the outsiders.

Stargirl was an interesting book to read.If I had time I would read it again. I loved how the author gave mystery in Stargirl (the book and her). Stargirl was a very odd character. I loved learning about her and the relationship between Leo and Stargirl. I think it is a good book to read on a summer day. The way Stargirl did those things for all the people. I would totally recommend it to other people and friends of mine. -Lauren Dietsch

The outsiders was a great book. Even if i really don't like violence. The activities we did in class were fun. I really enjoyed going over the book in our groups. I had lots of favorite parts in the book. My favorite part was when Ponyboy found the note in the book Johnny gave him. My second favorite part was as Kelsey said was when Johnny told Ponyboy to stay gold. So over all it was a great book, and when my dad saw that I was reading it he said," Oh, i read this book when i was in school."

The Outsiders book was a very interesting story to read. There was great suspense building up and you were always on the edge of your seat dying to know what's coming next! We had really fun activities in class, as Kaylynn said. I loved working on the project! It was great teamwork for my partner and I.

I loved The Outsiders!! It was a great book that left you some suspense at the end of the chapters. The disscusions in class really helped because if I didn't understand something I was able to be part of the disscusions. I think I would rather read The Outsiders just because it sounds like there is a story behind the names. Great book!

I read the Outsiders. I thought it was only okay. The book had a lot of twists and turns that had me literually gasping and saying things. I haven't heard anything about Stargirl, but I don't think it woould be my type of book. My favorite part of the book was when Ponyboy and Darry start fighting and Soda brakes into tears and runs off. Then all three of them are hugging (somewhat) and Soda is crying and laughing at the same time. I thought that by having classroom discusion it help me get a thorough understanding of the book. ~ Aubrey Staton 3rd hour :)

I liked reading The Outsiders because of the little extra conflicts in the book. My favorite part was Johnny and Ponyboy helping the little kids inside the burning church. I don't think I would like Stargirl from what friends have said. I also liked that it is so old of a book that my dad read it and my dad never reads. I think talking within the group was a good thing for me to understand what the book was about. I agree with Aubrey because I feel bad for Soda being in between two people and I feel a strong connection with Soda. All in all, I liked reading The Outsiders.

Stargirl was an okay book. Some parts were very interesting, and other parts were boring and not much to it. I liked the parts about Leo and Stargirl starting to like eachother. And also when people were starting to ignore both of them and their opinions on that. I do wish i would have read The Outsiders just from watching the movie. But Stargirl is a book im glad i read, but I would not read it again. -Lacey Kiefer

I agree with Madie, I really liked The Outsiders, and I liked the activities too. I think the book was really suspenseful and hard not to look ahead on. So, I’m really glad that we got to read The Outsiders. My favorite part was when Ponyboy met with Soda and Darry at the hospital and had the emotional moment. The classroom discussions that we had after reading chapters of the book, I thought were really helpful to my understanding of certain parts of the book. I also really liked the End of the Book Activities.

I thought the Outsiders was an amazing book! All the details and the description made it easy to almost touch the characters! The book, Stargirl, seemed okay but The outsider was way better to me!The discussion with our groups made it easier to connect everything and get a better perspective....vocab word!

The Outsiders was an amazing book. It was so descriptive that I felt like I was in the book! My favorite part was when they had the rumble and the greasers beat the socs. I don't know if I would read star girl or not but it seemed okay. The outsiders is probably one of my favorite books! -McKayla Boring

I loved reading The Outsiders because it was fantastic. I have read Stargirl before when I went to a different school, and I would read it again because it was wonderful too. My favorite part of The Outsiders was when Cherry told Ponyboy that if she ever saw Dally again, she might fall in-love with him. The reason why this was my favorite part was because I thought she said this because she thought that Dally was really cute even though he was rude to her. I liked to see what my friends thought about the situations that happened in the story too. I would read this book again because it was amazing and was the right book for us to read.

I agree with Madie al the way because I know that if I didn't have my brother even though ht might no think so i would be absolutely in shock if something had ever happened. From what i've heard about Stargirl I am not really hearing anytnhing in there that's saying I shouldld read this so I think I will just stick with telling people about my opinion on the outsiders which is great. If you're thinking about reading it and you want more info you can just ask me I scanned every page like it was a my clean room. My favorite part was definitely the rumble because it was kind of intense and you might think that would be the end. NOT AT ALL!!!

I liked stargirl because i thought it had a good message. I thought the message was to be yourself. When stargirl changed she didnt really like it which was telling you if u dont like it dont do it. Overall i thought stargirl was a pretty good book but really strange book.

I loved the book Stargirl my favorite part was when Stargirl went out on the football field took the ball and punted it and ran off. I have heard that The Outsiders was a pretty amazing book. But I can't really judge The Outsiders all I've heard is good things and that is was pretty sad. (: -Hannah K. Kirwan

I think that was another reason why I enjoyed this book so much! Thanks for picking this book for us to read! -Chloe Barth

The book The Outsiders I thought was a great book(in my opion). I dont not think that I would have read Stargirl because, some of my friends read it and said that it was not the best book. My favorite part in The Outsiders was when Johnny and Ponyboy went into the burning church and saved the little children from getting hurt. The classroom discussions helped me just because I like to talk about the book with someone that has read the same part as me.

I really liked reading the Outsiders and I am glad that we read that instead of Stargirl. I thought it was really good even though it was sad. My favorite part of the book was when Pony realized that he would be ok even though Johnny died. I liked reading this book because my parents both read it so they knew what was going on and I could talk to them about what happend in the book. I really loved reading this book!

I loved reading The Outsiders. It was really good! The class discussions were a lot of help if I didn't understand a certain part. I'm uncertain if I would read Stargirl or not. It seemed interesting but also from what others said, I'm not sure if I personally would like it. My favorite part was when Darry was "flirting" with Cherry and her friend because it made me laugh! All in all, I really enjoyed this novel!

I loved reading The Outsiders. I would rather read The Outsiders instead of Stargirl, just because of how awesome the book was, and i dont think any other book can top it. I really liked the book because of how much the book went into detail about Ponyboy's grief and each of the characters personality and feelings about everything that was going on in the book. My favorite part of the book was when Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy saved the little kids from the fire. I loved talking about it in class and hear everybody's opinion about each chapter.
