It's Monday...What are you reading?

I finished Ten by Gretchen McNeil.  I don't want to say too much because don't want to give any of the plot away.  My first copy has already been snagged before I even got it on the shelf.  I have another copy order and several who already are wanting to read it.  I can't wait to talk to someone who has read the book.  I talked with Mrs. Matzke already.  She loved the book.  I loved it, but I didn't like the ending.  She loved it because she couldn't see the final twist coming.  That's probably why I didn't love the ending.  I don't like huge surprises.
I also started and finished Promised by Caragh O'Brien this weekend.  (Exciting weekend, huh?)  This book is the third in the Birthmarked trilogy.  If you haven't read Birthmarked, you are missing out.  (Aubrey...)  I'm also not going to say too much because I don't want anyone reading the first or second book to know how those books end.  Let's just say that I had too many questions left after I finished this book.  I'm also looking forward to talking to Cheyenne about this book and finding out her thoughts.
Right now, I'm reading your sentences from the worksheet, "What Power is Often Made Of".  I'm amused how many of you think that you might become infamous someday from robbing a bank.  I'm hopeful that none of you become infamous for that!  I'm also learning about exciting incidents that have happened to many of you.  I'm not sure that losing your phone is exciting though.  I'd classify that as frightening!
So...what are you reading?  Be sure to put your name at the end of your post and to make a connection to another student or parent's post.

Hmmmm...how cool is this! I've never participated in a blog before and I love to read so this is super exciting! I am currently reading Insurgent, the 2nd of the Divergent Series by Veronica Roth. I can hardly get enough! I saw one post from a student that is currently reading these books. Has anyone else read them? If so, what are your thoughts? Do you compare them to the Hunger Games? Are you excited for the new release? ~Mrs. Kiefer (Lacey's mom)

I just started reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. I like the sci-fi about changing society so I thought this was a good one for me. I can't tell much because I'm not very far in the book but I do know there is five different groups of people that live in the same society. Each group has a characteristic that they think helps keep the society going and they must never disobey it. When you turn sixteen you get to pick what group you want to be in. Both her brother and her pick different societys than where they came from. The test she toke to find out what group she is in said that she could be in 3 different groups which means that she is Divergent. I like this book because you have to make a hard desicion in life and that is what you have to do in real life. I can connect to Mrs. Mool because I read that book and I do agree that they is too many questions at the book and I think Abby will love to finish the series. Cheyenne

I am currently reading The Duck Commander Family. This book is by Willie and Korie Roberston. This book is not the greatest book of all times. I recemend not reading this book unless you know the charters well. I am about half way throught it so I will tell you whats going on right now. Willie and Korie are talking about how the Duck Commander business got started. After long and hard hours of work they started to sell duck calls and get abotu 25,000 dollars a month. Can you beleive how much money you would have. Well then things started to go down hill. They had to pay for all the wood, the lighting, and the tools they used. They were about broke one day because they lighting bill came. They thought that they would have to shut down the business. Willie told his mom to go look in the mailbox one more time just to see if there was a check in there. So she did what here son said and came back with a 800 dollar check. Can you believe how much god was with them on there journey to making duck calls.

I think I would like the book Cheyenne is reading because it sounds a lot like The Hunger Games, and I liked that book. I think I would like her book because it sounds like there is a lot of action going on, and I like books like that.

I am reading Legend by Marie Lu. This book does not run out of surprises! Day met June and nursed her to health after being stabbed in a skiz fight, Day and June kissed, and June betrayed Day and because of this his mom was shot. I had this sadness thinking about the time when I heard my dog or Grandpa died, just an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I'm still reading "Unmarked" By P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. I am currently at the part where Zoey (a vampyre fledgling:teenager) is at Street Cats with Aphrodite, Darius (a Son of Erebus Vamp.) and her undead dead friend Stevie Rae. Nun's work at Street Cats and Zoey is worried that they are like the People of Faith who they think have been killing vampyres. But it turns out that they are nothing like them! They didnt freak out when they found out that all of them that were visiting were vampyres. That is as far as i have gotten. -Marissa Altman

I am currently in the process of reading "Ashes". I can't stop reading this book! I'm at the part right now where Alex has left Tom to find stuff to help him heal. The romance between these two is absolutely inspiring! She has met up with Chris Prentiss and he is helping her to dodge any attacks from this so-called "Rule". This book is gripping and an automatic page turner. This is a apocalyptic boo, so this is in the sci-fi category. I would most likely recommend this book to Jared. He likes to talk about the weird, gorey type of things, so this is right up his alley. I hope whoever gets their hands on this book when I'm done reading enjoys it. -Alexa

I am just getting started on Out of the Dust. I am on page 9 so I can only tell you what Billie Jo is like. First of all I know that Billie Jo is a girl! Her dad wanted her mom to have a boy but that didn`t happen. Billie`s house is a shack and she was born on the kitchen floor because she came too fast for the docter.I can infer that the whole town is poor because there was a fight because one man said there was a rabit in his garden, and she lives in a shack. The rabit had ate his produce and the man was going crazy and made everyone have a contest on who could kill the most rabbits! It is a good book and I`m anxious to read more. Alexa said it was great ,but sad. I think this would be a great book for Sarah because it is realistic. -Paige Metz

Well, I'm still reading Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. It is full of adventure and so far pretty cool, but there are a lot of words that I don't understand because this book is basically about pirates. Anyway, the last time I talked about the cook Long John Silver (who I'm pretty sure the resturaunt is named after). It turns out, he is the villian! He basically wants control over Treasure Island, the ship, and the crew.Jim, the main character, ran away from everyone else when he learned about Silver turning bad. He then met a man who has been living on the land for a long time and is now on Jim's side. I kind of want to read Lauryn's book The Duck Commander Family because I love that show!

I am still reading "Matched" by Ally Condie. In my book they have old stuff from grand parents. The grand parents give them the artifact when they are going to their match banquet. Her best friend does not have an artifact. So she asked cassia of she could use hers. She said yes so when she was at her banquet an official asked if that was hers she said no. When she came home she told cassia and she was not mad. When it was her first date with xander they went to a nice resteraunt and ate. When they came back she saw officials going house to house for something. She was so scared when she asked her friend what is happening and she said that the officials took their artifact. She did not want to get hers taken away. She asked what should she do to xander and he said go and get it and act like you are huging me and slip it in my shirt. She did what she was told to do but put another thing in there than her ardifact. I would love to read Divergent. It sounds like a good book. It kind of sounds like mine that you have to obey orders.

I am reading The Long Way Home by Andrew Klavan. This is the second book of the Homelanders series. Charlie just knocked a guy out who tried to kill him in the bathroom at the library. He found keys for a motorcycle in the thugs pocket. When he walks out he is surrounded by the thugs who are after him. He slowly walkeed up to the librarian to show he is a fugitive and she walks into the back room to call the police. As the thugs are taking Charlie to their car the police show up. Charlie instantly bolts for one out of the two motorcycles on the street. He tried the first motorcycle and that didn't work so he bolts for the other motorcycle. When he got there the police had surrounded him so he quickly shoved the keys into the ignition and was off. I would like to read Cheyenne's book Divergent because I have heard people compare it to The Hunger Games which I thought was a great series/book.

I am reading "Amazing Grace" by Megan Shull. It is about a girl named Grace Kincaid who is a famous tennis player and model and definitely in the world of fame. She wants to give it all up for a normal life. Everybody agrees in her crew and her job is cut which means there will be a lot of papparazzi and commotion about her calling it quits. Grace is going to lie low for a while till the commotion dies down and to do that she is going to travel around the world and go to a place completely different, change her name, cut her hair and live a normal life for a while till things die down. While she is there she meets an amazing guy and they get to know eachother. This is an amazing book about a girl who is finding herself and connecting with a incredible guy. I would really want to read Kaylynn Shclipf's book because I really like books about drama, school, and boys and I would really like to read it. Jordan Baker

The book I read is "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. I choose this book is because the book I was currently reading is finished, and I already posted on it. This book is about a boy who keeps taking from a tree, but eventually the tree has nothing left to give him. The book is saying: Don't take people for granted and be greedy because eventually they won't have anything left to give.

I liked Owens book that he read because One: I read it. and Two: I can relate to a lot of the things that the main character does. Dakota

I am currently reading 'Cryers Cross' by Lisa McMann' (aws you suggested) I am already so incr4edibky hooked to this book. I am only on page 20 and it is real page turner! Dakotas post about the giving tree c my book corresponds with my book because my book has people that care for one and other. The main charactor(s) are Kendall and Nico. Kendall has a type of OCD and she has tough time with other people. She is in love with Nico and his feelings for her ar mutual. I love this book because it keeps me thinking and wondering about what is going to happen next. I can also relate to this book because I have a mild type of OCD myself. Exepect I do a lot of things in pairs of even numbers. So I can relate to what Kendall is going through. I think that somebody like Christiana would like. ~~ Keilee Palmer 1st hour

I am still on the book "The Lost Boy" by Dave Pelzer. This book has gotten even more interesting than when i was at the part of the court scene. After they go to court, David is now in the foster care unit. David has gone through about six faster cares. In his first foster home he made a friend that wanted to annihilate a teacher. His friend started a fire and blamed it on David. Then David went into J.V. He has been through lots of faster homes and now he is with a couple named John and Linda Walsh. They are the push-over type of parents. I am at the part where his friend,Paul, taught him how to talk to girls and now David is trying it out on a neighboring girl. I am very interested in Keilee Pamler's book because in into the books that are just page turners!

He decides to play football but is not very good because he gets hit all the time and he thinks it is not for him so he quits and goes back to writing. After he quits he is setup with a partner to take pictures for the newspaper. He thinks she is really pretty and she is really sweet to people until you get on her bad side and she is really mean. I just finished the book Sure Fire this book was really cool because it was all about how some men wanted to destroy the capitol of China. The deal was they were part of China's rebellion who wanted to win the civil war and make a new country. The problem was the nukes they were going to steal from the Chinese goverment were dismantled and replaced by bombs but not nukes. So they decided to steal the football from the president of the U.S. If you are unfamiliar whith the term of the football then what it is is a launch device for all the U.S. militaries nukes. So they decide to invade the white house and take the football by force, but a british spy is there by the name of John Chance. He defeats the rebels and in the end the football turns out to be a decoy and the real device for armagedon is one of the Secret Service agent's phones. That is the book Sure Fire.

I read Spy High mission one. This book is like a normal super-spy book, and the characters seem to know it. The main characters of the book are Ben, Jake, Eddie, Lori, Cally, and Jennifer. The book is set in the future around the year 2200. At the start of the book they just took their second end of the term test at the spy school Spy High or officially Devereaux Academy. After they fail the book flashes back to their backgrounds and how they got to Spy High and their first attempt at the Stromfeld term test. After that during a party their senior tutor is ordered by the head of the academy to send them to investigate disappearances in a kind of national park. There they discover a gene operation run by a mad scientist who was the descendant of Frankenstein and was mutating the people he kidnapped into a mix of animals and people. They get caught by the scientist and Ben, Jennifer, and Lori are about to be mutated. Meanwhile Jake, Eddie, and Cally break out of their cells and Eddie takes a flying motorcycle kind of thing for help at a control outpost. Meanwhile Jake and Cally go to rescue Ben, Lori, and Jennifer. While their searching Jake and Cally find some people that failed the mutation including a captured agent and they help Jake and Cally find the lab and fight their way to it. During the fighting Jake and Cally destroy the computer that controls the chips that control the mutated people. The mutants then help them rescue their teammates but Frankenstein launches a bomb with the mutating gas at a city and destroys his lab. Cally redirects the missile into the ocean and they escape the lab before it is completely destroyed. Afterward the book skips to their third and final attempt at the Stromfeld test when they finally pass, then to the end of term party where it starts snowing and they go outside where the book ends.

Its the 3rd book in the Maximum Ride series. To fill you in on basic info the main character,Max, and her friends were kidnapped at birth and taken hostage at a lab. They now they all have wings and individual powers. They have gone through almost everthingb trying to fight off "erasers" and "whitecoats," which are the people at the lab that have experimented on them and gave them their powers, but are trying to destroy them. Somehow Max is supposed to save the world but first the her and the gang want to find their indentities but the only way to do that is to go back to the school where they have all their files since they experimented on them. To sasve energy they are trying to drive an 80s van without getting stopped by the cops...again.

I truly want to read "Ten" which I think Madie is reading, I love mysteries and surprises along with killing people.

I am reading the world's greatest book,Blank Confession. I absolutely love this book because, it is mysterious and it brings my attention faster. This book makes me WANT to read. Anyway, so far in the book this kid named Shane is in an investigation room being integragated by Rawls.Rawls is the investigator by the way. He is conning him into saying he killed someone,BUT HE WON'T CONFESS!!!! it's driving me nuts. Also, the other part telling us whats happening in the past, this Mexican kid named Mikey, is caught for having drugs in his locker. he had them because this other teen named Jon Brande gave him a brown paper bag full of something.( they didn't say what was in it) He only took it because he was scared of him and he was his sister's girlfriend. i don't know the sister's name. Then, they did a locker check and got busted for having the mysteryis bag and Aleve. Mickey's parent's cared less about the bag, they only cared about the Aleve. I thought this part was nuts, crazy, wacko, etc.
I think that Reannea Stualcup would like this book because, she likes mysteries and investigating stories. - Myia Willhite

I started and finished the book Ten by Gretchen McNeil over the weekend. It was really good! I really liked this book because it was a really good mystery that just had to keep reading to figure out. It is about a group of teens who go to a private island to go to a party hosted by Jessica, the most popular girl in school. When Meg, the main character, and her best friend Minnie arrive at the island it is very stormy outside. When they get on the island Meg and Minnie meet T.J. After a very complicated Homecoming night, Meg and T.J.'s relationship became very tense. Meg finds out from T.J. that a call came to tell the guests that Jessica and most of the other people at the party are not going to make it until the next morning because cheer practice ran late and they missed the ferry. This book has lots of foreshadowing! The plot is very exciting and keeps you thinking the entire time you are reading. I won't say too much because I know that lots of people are waiting to read this book. I think that Aubrey will really like this book too because it has some romance and a very exciting plot!

I think that Paige will really like Out of the Dust because it is really good! I have read it before and even though I don't normally read historical fiction books, I really liked that book.

I'm reading Life as we Knew by Susan Beth Pfeffer still. It's about the moon getting hit by an asteroid and the moon coming closer to the Earth. When that happens, tides get higher, electricity goes out a lot and it storms a lot. People go crazy and a lot of people think it's the end of the world. I would like to read Lacey's book, because I like books with wars and stuff.

I am reading "The Girl with the Silver Eyes" by Willo Davis Roberts. This book is about a ten year old girl named Katie Welker who is not so normal. She was born with silver eyes and has the power to move objects when she thinks about moving them. So far Katie overhears her mom and her boyfriend Nathan, talk about how she's different and that she has peculilar eyes. So now she's in her apartment with the babysitter and is her room devising a plan to runaway. I am only that far in the book, about chapter 5. But I do like this book. I love how there is some drama and mystery. I think that this book would keep the reader in suspense about what's going to happen next. I did read Jordan's blog about the book "Amazing Grace," and I think that i agree with her about the whole drama and boys. Plus, I like how it's set to be about adventure too and that she changes her look, her name. I think that I will be wanting to read it sometime. I hope that some people will want to read thtis book and will enjoy it too.

I am reading Anne Frank Beyond the Diary. In my book Anne Frank's family has to go into hiding because they are Jews. Hitler doesn't like the Jews because he thinks that they have a higher power/authority. Anne ends up falling in-love with a boy named Peter. They end up falling in-love in the Secret Annex where most of the Frank's friends that were Jews stayed with them. The Frank's and the Van Pel's family all get taken away and have to go to the concentration camps where they eventually die. My opinion about this book is that the book is very good! Also very adventurous! I would like to read Lauren Dietsch's book because it sounds very differrent and I like different.

I am reading Ten!! I love it already and just got it yesterday, I can't put it down! The dynamic between Minnie and Meg I think is like give and take. Minnie relies on Meg for EVERYTHING, but Minnie does have panic attacks and needs Meg for support. The one thing I have trouble with though, is that Minnie has had a crush on TJ forever and Meg secretly likes him too. TJ doesn't like Minnie but does like Meg, but Meg can't date him because then she would be betraying Minnie. Meg, Minnie, TJ and some others are at a weekend long party on an island. The host can't be there because cheerleading practice went late and she couldn't take the ferry. There has already been 3 deaths, everyone is hoping that they were "accidents" but they aren't. Someone is picking them off one by one. I can't figure out if there is someone that we don't know yet that is killing them or if it is someone in the house that knows everyone. I think Alexa's book Ashes sounds good and kind of the same as Ten with the attacks and the romance. I love Ten so far and will finish it soon... I know some people want it.

I am still reading "Somebody Please Tell Me Who I Am" by Harry Mazer because I keep forgetting to bring my book home. Ben is now out of his coma. His fiance Ariela is feeling very guilty for going back to college instead of staying with him. Ben is slowly getting his memory back, and even starting to mumble noises and words. Everyday there is more hope for Chris (Ben's very smart autistic younger brother) because he is no longer worried just says he will write poems about Ben's story. Niko is Ben's friend who actually is only a Senior and hasn't graduated because of his age (he wasn't held back). I enjoy this book although it is more of a slow pace right now I'm still waiting for something big to happen such as Ben getting his memory back completely. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes short books and remembers to take them home. I really want to read the Divergent series because Mrs. Kiefer, Cheyenne, Abby, and Paige have all said it was a good book.

I just finished reading the book called "In Defiance of Hitler: The Secret Mission of Varian Fry" by Carla Killough McClafferty. It is about a man that works with an agency that is trying to help some famous refugees from France in WWII. He has many narrow excapes from the Gestapo. This books name is written all over Sarah's face. It is just her type. I don't see how people can like the sci-fi type of books I have read one chapter of a sci-fi book and hated it.

I am reading a non-fiction book called "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. I just started it and it's Professor Pausch's story about his last months after he was told he was going to die of pancreatic cancer. He needs to finish writing his last college lecture but his wife wants him to spend more time with his kids. He moved to get closer to his wife's family so she would have help when things got bad. It doesn't seem quite as good of a start as my last two books but I need to get a little further into it. I will write more next week.

I've just started "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green. The book is O.K. but it doesn't exactly reel me in. Hazel, (the main charactor)is terminal with cancer. And for those of you who don't know what terminal means, it means the doctors can't do anything anymore. She goes to a support group and meets a man named Augustus who is really hot. They kind of are going through a silent love relationship right know and I sense something bad is about to happen or change the whole course of the story. Hazel seems like the kind of person that is stubbern and independent.I'm not on fire for this book though. I don't care for the putting down of Jesus at the beginning.Maybe she feels angry at God for what has happened to her. In her position I probably would too. The profanaty is unessessary and kind of makes me feel uncomfortable. But since most of us have not been through the scarring of cancer, we do not understand. We see through the eyes of the world but they are the real ones who have to face the reality. When so many times we hear about survivers of cancer we do not realize how many people with cancer died. But the one thing I love about the book is that it is different than the other cancer books. In most books about cancer, the main charactor always survives. In this one Hazel is destined to die. After all, for many people, they don't survive. This is different, I like it. I would say this is Sheilah's type of book or even Chloe's. They like the kind of love modern stories.
Clayton my friend, you have a very good opinion on what you like to read. That sounds so good and I really want to read it!

I was reading Brett Favre by Bonnita Favre. Its an autobiography written by Brett Favre's father who taught Brett every thing he knows. Brett's dad wanted Brett to be a baseball player. He was a good pitcher and that's why he has such a great arm. When Brett was young his father told him one of the last things you will ever do is lay on the football field showing people that you are hurt. This is one of the things I play by when I actually play. Brett Favre played for the Green Bay Packers. He took them to the super bowl once. They won the super bowl. A couple of years later Brett announced his retirement. He decided not to retire and the Green Bay Packers traded him to the New York Jets. He didn't like the Jets and was going to actual retire. Then the Minnesota Vikings were interested so he went to them. Then after a season with the Vikings he finally retired and now volunteers at a local high school as a coach. I think I will like kaleab holts book I like to fish. PS sorry for the miss spelling on your name

I just came across this blog, and hopefully it's open to the public because I decided to add my comment! I am currently reading the 3rd book to the series Wither (Chemical Garden), called Sever by Lauren DeStefano. These books are crazy good and I can hardly put them down. If you haven't read them.. you should go get the book right now from the library. It's about the future where the cure for cancer is found and it ends up mutating the human race causing the live expectancy of humans to dramatically decrease. The first generation (the ones who invented the cure) are left trying to find a way to reverse the effects by doing tests on the people who have been infected with this gene, and breeding young men and woman to make new guinea pigs to do research. Sounds confusing, but trust me it all makes sense when you read it! SO READ IT! I love this book because it makes me realize that yes, it would be so amazing to find the cure for cancer, but what if it ends up hurting the world in the long run. It makes me think about what will come when my children are adults and how the world will be. Stella Kiefer
